La Victoire est a Nous!

Given my track record when commanding the French in our games, one learns to celebrate French victories of the Hundred Days wherever one can find them.

Maybe Europe should issue coins depicting all French defeats starting with Alesia ending with Dien Bien Phu. See how the French react to that!

Actually, I think it is best that the idea was canned. I have no problem with the idea of a commemorative coin issued by various governments.

But for a coin that is going to be legal tender across Europe, coins celebrating victories by one member nation over another is bound to ruffle feathers somewhere. Best not to go down that track at all.

I could imagine what would have been the outcry if the French had proposed that a coin enter circulation celebrating Austerlitz, Jena- or even Fontenoy. How about De Grasse's victory of the RN at Chesapeake?

Contrary to popular belief, there is no lack of French victories over just about every nation on the continent for them to choose from. And I'm pretty sure that if the Waterloo coin had gone into circulation, there would have been a tit-for-tat response.

All of which would have made a great script for an episode of Yes, Minister.

Probably a wise move...
